Privacy

Short version: the domain names and IP addresses you look up are sent by your browser to the public DNS resolvers listed below, and to nobody else. DNS Prism has no accounts, no cookies, no ads and no trackers.

What leaves your browser

A lookup is a DNS query containing the name you entered (for reverse DNS, a name built from the IP address, such as 1.1.1.1.in-addr.arpa) and the record type. Your browser sends it over HTTPS directly to one or more of these resolvers:

  • Cloudflare: cloudflare-dns.com
  • Google Public DNS: dns.google
  • dnsforge.de: dnsforge.de
  • DNS.SB: doh.dns.sb
  • Control D: freedns.controld.com

The DNS lookup, reverse DNS and TXT tools use the resolver you pick. The propagation checker, the “compare all resolvers” button, the DNSSEC checker (for the AD flag) and the NS lookup (for the SOA serial) ask all five. Like any web request, these services see your IP address and the query; their own privacy policies apply. The requests carry no cookies and no referrer (browsers do add an Origin header naming dnsprism.me), and DNS Prism never receives them.

The zone file generator and the subnet calculator work entirely on your device and send nothing.

What is stored on your device

  • Your colour theme, your preferred resolver and your zone file draft, in this browser’s local storage.
  • The last name you looked up, so the next tool can pre-fill it, in session storage, which is cleared when you close the tab.

None of this is sent anywhere. You can clear it with your browser’s “clear site data”.

Analytics

The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies or cross-site tracking and never receives what you type, paste or drop into the tools. Looked-up names are never put in page addresses, so they do not appear in page-view counts.

Hosting

The pages are static files served by Cloudflare. There is no DNS Prism back end, database or log of lookups.

Links

Links to other sites, including the sister sites in the footer, CleanTempMail and WebTraceCheck, are ordinary links. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
